Catholic Diocese of Livingstone: Livingstone, Southern Province, Zambia; Livingstone Diocese was a part first of the Zambezi Mission and then of the Prefecture Apostolic of Broken Hill (Kabwe). The Irish Capuchin fathers arrived in 1931 and took responsibility for this area. A flourishing Christianity developed mainly, at first, by establishing schools by education and pastoral work. A great support both in education and in pastoral work also came from the Holy Cross Sisters who joined the Capuchin Fathers in 1936. On 25th May, 1936 Livingstone became a Prefecture Apostolic with Mgr Killian Flynn, OFM. Cap. as its Prefect Apostolic. On 10th March 1950 it became a Vicariate Apostolic. Bishop O’Shea OFM. Cap. was the first Vicar Apostolic. On 25th April 1950 Livingstone became a Diocese and Mgr O’Shea became its first Bishop. On 18th November, 1974 Bishop O’Shea retired and Bishop Adrian Mung’andu was appointed Bishop of Livingstone. On 9th January, 1984 Bishop Mung’andu was transferred to Lusaka as its Bishop, the present Bishop was appointed and ordained on 7th July 1985. Bishop Valentine was ordained on 3rd September 2016. The Diocese of Livingstone comprises part of the Kalomo District, the Livingstone, Kazungula, Sesheke and Shangombo districts.
